HKA Elevator Consulting, Inc. specializes in the business of vertical and horizontal transportation consulting. As an elevator consulting firm, our client base consists of architects, developers, building owners and managers, contractors and public agencies such as city, county, state and federal entities. Our firm assists in the development of people and material transportation systems for commercial offices, retail, hospitals, hotels, residential, parking facilities, museums, libraries, schools, correctional facilities, public transit facilities, merchandising marts and other institutional facilities. Additionally, the firm’s expertise allows for expert witness services to be offered to attorneys and insurance companies.
As an independent firm made up of professionals drawn from throughout the elevator industry, our people have a broad range of experience and expertise in all phases of elevator consulting. We provide full services from schematic design through the final stages of construction and testing of the vertical transportation systems for both new buildings and the modernization of existing buildings. Our firm also provides maintenance evaluations and "remaining useful life" studies of existing systems. We are members of BOMA, IREM, SMPS, NAESA and are QEI certified. We are also a State of California Certified Small Business.

HKA Elevator Consulting, Inc. was founded in January 1999 by Daryl Anderson, former President and Principal of Hesselberg, Keesee & Associates, Inc. since 1986. The original firm was founded San Francisco, California in 1963 by Edwin H. Hesselberg after 44 years of experience with Otis Elevator Company. In 1973, Mr. Glen Keesee joined Mr. Hesselberg as a consultant and in 1976, purchased the firm which became incorporated in the State of California under the name Hesselberg, Keesee & Associates, Inc. Daryl Anderson joined the firm in 1981 and in 1986, the interest in the firm was purchased by Daryl Anderson and Thomas L. Wendt. In 1989, the firm expanded its operation to Southern California with Daryl Anderson as the principal. In 1999, two separate corporations were formed to better serve the needs of clients and staff in each geographic region.
Daryl Anderson, President: Established HKA Elevator Consulting, Inc. after serving as President and Principal of Hesselberg, Keesee & Associates. Anderson began his career in 1972 with a major elevator manufacturing company holding positions in engineering, estimating and sales until 1979. From 1979 to 1981, he held the position as an in-house elevator consultant for the architectural firm of Skidmore, Owings and Merrill.
Steve Kinnaman, Principal and Vice President: Joined HKA Elevator Consulting, Inc. in 2007 as a Vice President and Principal of the Corporation. Steve has over 35 years of experience in the vertical transportation field. His background includes the manufacturing and contracting as well as the consulting segments of the business. In the manufacturing and contracting segment, he was involved with product planning and application, equipment application analysis, sales and marketing, construction project management and regional operations management. Steve currently does an extensive amount of work in New York City and in Europe.
Joe Orrico, Principal and Vice President: Joined HKA Elevator Consulting, Inc. as the Technical Director and is a Principal and Vice President of the Corporation. He worked as a consultant at Lerch Bates & Associates from 1988 to 1999; and District Maintenance Specialist at Otis Elevator Corporation from 1973 to 1988.
John Reynolds, Principal and Vice President: Joined HKA Elevator Consulting, Inc. as a Project Consultant and is a Principal and Vice President of the Corporation. He worked in the field installing and maintaining elevators and escalators at various major manufacturers from 1988 to 1997. He held various management positions from 1997 to 2005, the most recent being Service Manager for a major elevator manufacturer.
Jim Sternberg, Principal and Vice President: Joined HKA Elevator Consulting, Inc. with the responsibility of further developing the Nevada market and assisting HKA with his overall knowledge and extensive experience. Jim has been in the elevator industry since 1972 working for various major elevator manufacturers in several different markets and in a wide-range of capacities such as field mechanic-in-charge, construction superintendent, office manager, service manager and regional modernization manager. Jim's wide range of expertise greatly assists him in new construction, maintenance evaluations/audits, modernizations, troubleshooting and due diligence evaluation projects.
Alan Taylor, Associate: Joined HKA Elevator Consulting, Inc. in 2007 as an Associate. Alan has over 28 years of vertical transportation experience and has worked in various positions with several elevator companies since 1979. These include lead elevator adjuster/troubleshooter, adjusting and construction superintendent, field engineer, technical manager, construction/modernization manager, operations manager, technical support engineer, regional trainer, chief technology and production officer, and vice president. Prior to joining HKA, Alan was a Principal with an elevator consulting firm specializing in High Rise projects worldwide.
John Wall, Senior Consultant: Joined HKA Elevator Consulting, Inc. in 2006 as a Senior Consultant. John has over 37 years of elevator experience in various positions such as hands-on service and repair of elevators, service manager, sales manager and branch manager of various elevator companies. John’s responsibilities at HKA are consulting for existing properties in the area of maintenance and condition audits, due diligence evaluations, trouble shooting and modernization of systems.
